Real-life Product Placement: Tag Brands In Facebook Photos
2011, May 16
Facebook recently tweaked its features and
gave users the option of tagging pages in their photos. So now if you have
pictures of yourself holding a bottle of Coca-Cola while sitting at a Domino's
Pizza Parlour, you can tag pages of the two brands along with your friends.
These tagged photos are then featured on the brands' pages under the photos
section (not on the wall). And you don't even need to ‘Like' the page to be
able to tag the brand; now that sounds helpful.
This move came as a boon for brands, as brands
like Coca-Cola, Starbucks and Zappos have already started getting tagged in
their fans' pictures. It's a sort of
free advertising for them and brands are readily embracing this change and even
asking their fans to follow suit. As of now, only Brands and People like
celebrities can be tagged into photos, and soon this option will be expanded to
other small time companies as well. For those who have tons of privacy settings
on their pictures, do not fret; all your privacy settings will still be
applicable for these tagged pictures.
It seems like Facebook has struck gold with
this idea. Even though people were sceptical when the feature was first rolled
out, fans have actually started tagging brands in their pictures and the
concept is steadily gaining momentum.
What do you think about this idea? Would
you consider tagging your favourite brands? Let us know in the comments below.
