UTV Brings SponsoredTweets.com To India
2011, Sep 08
UTV Interactive , the
digital arm of UTV, announced its partnership with US-based social media firm IZEA and is planning to bring SponsoredTweets.com to India. This
platform will enable advertisers to place their ads in users' timelines in the
form of sponsored tweets.
Basically, if you are tweeting about some
product or service or even providing links to certain brands, you can be paid for
those tweets. Users can set their own price per tweet. A tweeter will be
selected on the basis of his/her profile strength, so if you have a large
number of followers, chances of you sending sponsored tweets are high.
This will also provide a great opportunity
for small brands to publicise their product. It will enable them to gain
popularity via word-of-mouth. Internationally, IZEA already has popular
celebrities tied up with this project, such as Kim Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan,
Mike Tyson and many others. Similarly, UTV Interactive has approached Indian
celebrities like Anurag Kashyap, Lara Dutta, Mahesh Bhupati, etc to tweet on
behalf of brands.
Getting celebrities involved means more
leverage to the brand. Considering the 12 million active user base of Twitter
in India
itself, it sounds like a beneficial deal for all involved.
Would you be interested in tweeting about a
brand and getting paid for it? Or do you think such sponsored tweets will spam
your timeline? Let us know in the comments below.
