Youtube + Facebook = Viral
2011, Apr 15
Desperados, the tequila-flavoured beer
brand, released a new viral on
their Youtube channel . It's an interactive video, where viewers can
invite their Facebook friends to
party with them. Desperados ads are usually based on party scenes, but this time
they have gone a step further and put their viewers in the party. What's more, it even lets viewers integrate their
Facebook accounts with the video.
Of course, like all real parties, you need
to be of legal age to get in this party too. Right in the beginning of the
video you will be asked your birth date and if you're interested in partying
with men or women. The video is shown from the user's angle, made to seem like
everyone at the party is talking to you. In later parts, the video features
your Facebook friends' display pictures on a photo frame, mug, etc. At the end of
the video, one of these ‘party people' shows off a Desperado tattoo with your Facebook
profile picture, while another person photographs it. You're then given the
option of sharing this video with your friends on Facebook and Twitter .
Desperados has used a really good concept
here. What makes this ad is the integration of Facebook; it gives a real feel
to the video and makes it interactive in a real sense. You're asked to turn the
volume down, help break the walls, the video even includes the page around it---all
of which makes it a great experience. Even including your Facebook friends in
the video makes it a more interesting ad to watch. Indian brands are yet to tap
this kind of advertising; but they can surely take a lesson or two out of this.
